Hey, I’m Maciej, a Product Design graduate.I grew up with a screwdriver in my hand, constantly disassembling everything around me. Through this, I developed a natural understanding of how products are built, function, and come together. Throughout my studies, I’ve honed skills in production, assembly, and designing for real-world contexts, an approach that resonates with me at my core.
I gain energy from sharing experiences with others and exploring new ideastogether, I aim to follow a design path that allows people to connect and experience with good design. My design style leans toward the technical, complex, and mechanical leaving that strong impression through thoughtful detail and form. For me, design is a medium for expressing understanding, capability, and appreciation for how things work.
Bastion Air is a welding face shield designed to improve safety compliance by prioritising comfort and usability. Research revealed that welders often remove PPE due to heat, poor visibility, discomfort, and workflow interruption, creating safety compromises and increasing risk. This project proposes a human-centred solution that aligns protection with workflow. The final concept integrates active cooling, automatic shade adjustment, an internal clear protective visor, and vibration feedback to improve control sensitivity through thick gloves into a single system.
Together, these features reduce heat build-up, simplify interaction, and minimise the need to remove the helmet between tasks. Prototyping demonstrated that improvements in thermal comfort, balance, and ease of use increase continuous wear. Bastion Air reframes PPE design by showing that safety is most effective when it is effortless, shifting from enforced compliance to comfort-driven behaviour.
