Fading Rituals

This project uses the ritual of preparing a family meal, symbolized through the tradition of Christmas pudding, as a visual metaphor to explore social isolation and the loss of traditions. Presented as a black-and-white campaign, it looks at the change from connection to absence, shown through the transition from fullness to emptiness due to a ritual not happening anymore. Still images of kitchen utensils show the transition from presence to absence. The narrative reflects how rituals can fade overtime, combining my dad’s voice, sharing past experiences, with my own voice delivering a call to action about the reality of spending Christmas alone. The sound narrative uses busy sounds that slowly fade into quietness. This shows the development of loneliness and emotional disconnection.

Max and the Clown Board book

This project explores how children manage emotions around their fears of clowns through a visual picture book. The story starts off with a child who feels fear when meeting a clown. This emotion changes into joy as the clown shows a clumsy and funny side to him. The story focuses on emotional change, using expressive illustrations, body language, and visual storytelling to communicate these changes. Changing a feared figure into something humorous, this helps to change fear into a more positive experience. It is designed for young children to read at their own pace. It’s an interactive piece that encourages children to recognize and process their feelings, showing how perception can change through experience and helping to reduce anxiety.
