GradX Visual Merchandising

Erin Curran

I’m Erin, a visual merchandising graduate with a big interest in storytelling and set design. I love being creative and coming up with ideas that tell a story through my work. I enjoy drawing and designing, but my favorite part is building things and actually bringing my ideas to life. When I create something, I want people to feel like they’re stepping into a different world. I like making work that’s interesting and detailed so that the person looking at it can really get involved in it and enjoy the experience. For me, it’s not just about how something looks, but how it makes people feel. I always try to make my work feel fun, creative, and immersive so that others can connect with it and be part of the story I’m trying to tell.

Boho-cowboy

The objective of this project was to design a fashion accessory inspired by contemporary trends, with particular emphasis on fringing, for a fashion styling shoot. I pursued a light, fluid, and glamorous aesthetic by selecting fabrics that embodied a boho-cowboy theme through the combination of soft and textured materials. Upon completing construction of the pieces, I organised and styled a photoshoot to present the designs as effectively as possible.

Additionally, I developed a poster that clearly communicated the project's overarching theme and mood. Artdirecting at each stage, from concept development to final presentation, enabled me to integrate my ideas into a cohesive, visually compelling format.

Cottage kitchen

As part of my final year, I completed a work placement at Avoca. During this period, I developed several concepts for displays that best represented the brand’s style and atmosphere. For my final display, I focused on the idea of a cottage kitchen. The aesthetic I pursued was picnic-style cottage living, inspired by cooking and relaxing on a spring day. My intention was to create a warm, inviting, and slightly nostalgic atmosphere. The display was structured like a frame with curtains on each side, evoking the sense of peering into a cosy cottage kitchen. I incorporated details such as porcelain tea sets, baked goods, spreads, florals, and colourful throws. This project was particularly rewarding as it enabled me to create a complete scene and consider how each element contributes to storytelling and brand representation.
