I am Shauna Dunne, a Graduate, studying Visual Merchandising. I have great interest in the Interior side of Visual Merchandising working with homeware displays during my course. I have learned so many techniques throughout the course, and skills in digital modelling in Sketchup that helped me develop my ideas more clearly in a digital way. During my experience in my course, I also got the opportunity to do work placement in Dunne's Stores and IKEA. I chose to do my work placement in IKEA as I realised from my first placement at Dunnes I really enjoyed working with the homeware department and creating stores throughout homeware displays at Dunne’s. I am looking forward to carrying on my experience I had learned for the future.
Major Project
For my final installation I did an academic year of work placement at IKEA. I learned lots of new skills and techniques that I could bring back to college and use in my final installation. For my Final installation I got the opportunity to do a display for IKEA, the idea of the display was to do a display based of IKEA with a touch of my personality and creativity from my 3 years' experience of my course. To develop my ideas, I researched IKEAS heritage and researched the brand. I also researched inspiration from WGSN that we use in college to develop our ideas. During my research I looked at colour and latest trends to come up with new creative ideas to develop my display. This was my favourite display as I used all my experience what I had learned in my first and second year of collage to create my major project display.
Big Ideas 2026
In my second year of my Visual Merchandising course. My assignment was to look and new ideas in 2026 and upcoming trends to develop a display. I researched WGSN to get inspiration to develop my display. I looked at a lot of sustainability and the environment and also looked at primary sources of nature. The idea of my display was to create a nature element in my display and add an element of fashion. This was one of my favorite displays and I did deep research to develop something creative and different.
