Hi, my name is Helen. I am a filmmaker with a passion for Screenwriting, Directing and Producing. Ever since I was a child I have been drawn to stories and storytelling and knew early on in my studies that I would gravitate towards the creative end of filmmaking. I have been very lucky during my time in TUDublin and was given the opportunity to write and direct two short films as well as producing and directing a short documentary, each of which I am incredibly proud of! I love to write and create stories that focus on intimate relationships between individuals, particularly female relationships, and love to explore and challenge the dynamics of relationships. I was lucky thought my degree to be fortunate to explore many avenues of filmmaking and experience different roles on short films such as Directing, Writing, Producing, Editing, Continuity, Locations Sound and Assistant Camera. I have experience in writing and directing and have been able to produce a short documentary and three short films over the last four years. I have edited two short films and have done continuity and script supervision on two as well.

In my final year, I was lucky enough to be one of the students who had their script chosen to be made into a short film. It was such an incredible opportunity to be able to write, direct and co-edit. I wrote Resting Place as its themes of family, communication and autonomy are very important to me. I conduct a lot of research for this script and tried to interview as many people as possible who experienced either moving into a nursing home and people who had family members move into nursing homes. I wrote Resting Place as challenge to myself. I had previously written a short film that features witches, magic and supernatural events and wanted to challenge myself and see if I could write a short film that focuses on dialogue, darker themes, minimal locations and a small cast. Making this short film with my friends from college has been an indescribable experience, I am so lucky to be surrounded by such talented and creative people.
