My name is Mia Rodgers, and I am a 22-year-old Film & Broadcasting student. I moved from England to a small village in the west of Donegal when I was a child, growing up in the Gaeltacht surrounded by culture and arts gave me the space to focus on my interest in film and begin thinking seriously about working in the industry. When I later moved to Dublin and found a more active creative environment through college. I’ve worked across a range of roles including Dop, director, camera operator and producer. Each position has given me a deep understanding of different parts of the filmmaking process. These experiences have helped me find my direction within the industry and the kind of work I want to be involved in moving forward. I’m particularly interested in incorporating elements of Irish language and landscape into my work and hopefully in the future to create a documentary fully as Gaeilge. One of my achievements so far is directing a documentary called Ellius (2024), where I interviewed a portrait photographer called Ellius Grace, who captured striking images of two Irish icons, Shane McGowan and Sinead O’Connor. The documentary was shown in the Lighthouse Cinema as part of First Frame at DIFF.
