I am Aoibh McBride, an interior design graduate with a strong interest in creating thoughtful, user-focused spaces. From a young age, I was drawn to interior design, and this passion developed further during Transition Year through work experience with LyonsKelly, where I gained valuable insight into client interaction, concept development, and the design process. In 2024, I completed an internship with Jullianne Kelly Interiors, where I researched and assisted in the creation of mood boards, attended client homes with designers, contributed to briefing meetings and brainstorming sessions, and worked on window displays. This experience gave me extensive knowledge of fabrics, furniture designers, and interior styling.
My thesis project, Chapter House Hotel, explores the design of a contemporary hospitality space inspired by Irish literary culture and storytelling. The concept interprets the idea of a “chapter” as a spatial journey, where each area of the hotel reflects a different narrative, creating an immersive and layered experience for guests.
The design brings together social, wellness, and private spaces, including a spa, lounge areas, and bedrooms, all carefully considered to enhance comfort and connection. A bold use of colour, texture, and form is balanced with a cohesive overall scheme, creating spaces that feel both engaging and harmonious. Material choices such as terrazzo, copper, and rich timber finishes introduce warmth and tactility, while references to Irish art and literature ground the project in its cultural context. This project reflects my interest in designing experiential interiors that combine storytelling, functionality, and user wellbeing.
