I’m a 22-year-old journalism student from Palmerstown, County Dublin. For as long as I can remember, this was always the course that I wanted to do. I was always fascinated by the idea of talking to people with stories to tell and information to share and being able to showcase said stories and information myself. Our magazine ‘Pulse’ was nominated for magazine of the year at the Student Media Awards, which I was proud of as I worked throughout the year on a story for it.
My story was called ‘Digital Dilemma’ which discussed AI usage at third level: how deep students’ usage of it runs, how lecturers are tackling it and what are the overall benefits and concerns surrounding the technology. I interviewed students, lecturers and an AI software engineer and I was proud of how the final piece turned out. We also had to convert this project into a 4 minute audio piece and a 90 second video piece, the audio version of which can also be observed here.
