GradX Product Design

Ciara Hogan

Hi, I’m Ciara, and I’m a final-year Product Design student. I have a passion for intelligent, thoughtful design. My work focuses on understanding real user needs and translating them into practical, intuitive solutions through a research-led approach. I place strong emphasis on how products look and feel, ensuring they are both aesthetically pleasing and functional.

I approach projects through an iterative process of research, concept development, prototyping, and testing, using feedback to refine and improve outcomes. I aim to create considered, well-resolved designs that balance usability, simplicity, and technical feasibility, while responding to real-world challenges in a meaningful and practical way.

Pebble – The Reading Assistant

Pebble is designed to support dyslexic children in learning to read in a way that is simple, intuitive, and adaptable to their needs. By pointing at a word, children can hear it read aloud as a whole word, broken into syllables, or decoded phonetically, helping to build word recognition and decoding skills. Portable and easy to use, Pebble goes beyond existing reading aids by minimising the need for fine motor control. It offers a range of modes inspired by paired reading, allowing children to read independently or share the reading when needed. These modes support fluency and confidence while reducing fatigue.

Pebble also provides gentle feedback when mistakes are made, helping children stay on track without disrupting the flow. An accompanying app tracks progress, highlights areas of difficulty, and offers targeted phonics activities.
