GradX Product Design

David Keane

I’m David, a product design graduate driven by a passion for solving complex, real-world problems. My design style is hands-on and iterative, I focus on sketching, prototyping, and testing ideas physically to fully understand how they perform and feel in use. My interest in design started from a young age through a fascination with how things are made, which developed into a strong problem-solving mindset.

I enjoy tackling difficult challenges that push me to think creatively and approach problems from new perspectives. I’m particularly focused on assistive and medical design, aiming to create inclusive products that can have a meaningful impact on people’s lives. To me, design is both the responsibility and opportunity to create solutions that truly make a difference.

Lunalign: Improving Sleep for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can have a serious impact on sleep, with many people waking during the night due to numbness, tingling, or pain in their hands. Over time, poor sleep can affect daily life, productivity, overall wellbeing, whilst also allowing symptoms to worsen. Existing wrist braces are often uncomfortable, sweaty, bulky, and mainly designed for daytime use, making them difficult to wear consistently at night, when the wrist needs support the most.

Lunalign is designed specifically for night-time use, focusing on comfort and ease of use. It gently supports the wrist in a better position using a structured outer frame and adjustable tightening system, rather than forcing it into place. A simple dial allows users to tighten or loosen Lunalign easily with one hand, whilst breathable materials keep it comfortable throughout the night. This project shows how improving comfort and usability can make a real difference in how people manage CTS.
