Devika Mohan

My name is Devika Mohan and I am a 4th year Visual Communication student at TU Dublin with a strong interest in editorial, illustration, and motion graphic design, often exploring themes connected to contemporary social issues through my work. I enjoy concept development and the process of testing, refining, and resolving work, and I am motivated by seeing an idea fully come together in a way that feels both clear and engaging. I am always looking to develop my skillset, keen to learn new approaches and explore different ideas while continuing to develop my skills and approach as a designer.

An Infusion of Entanglement

This project examines tea as an entangled object whose meaning is not inherent but continuously produced through the complex relationships it is embedded within. It situates tea within intersecting cultural, political, economic, and historical systems that shape and reconfigure its identity as it moves across contexts. From medicinal use to ritual practice, global commodity to instrument of colonial trade and resistance, tea is constantly redefined by the forces it passes through. Through a process of layered unpacking, the project materialises these shifting entanglements, revealing how meaning is constructed through relation rather than isolation, and inviting a reconsideration of the familiar object as a site of ongoing negotiation and power.

We Use Cookies

This project explores the shift of curatorial power in contemporary media from traditional broadcast institutions to algorithmic systems that personalise what users see. In response, I designed a printed publication that structurally mirrors algorithmic personalisation, replacing a linear reading experience with decision points that guide readers through different content pathways based on their choices. As a result, each reader encounters a partial and subjective version of the content, reflecting how personalised media environments shape perception, limit exposure, and construct individualised realities. By translating these invisible digital processes into a physical format, the publication makes the mechanisms of algorithmic curation tangible, encouraging readers to reflect on how content is filtered, prioritised, and controlled.
