GradX Visual Communication

Katie Moody

Hi, I’m Katie, a Visual Communications student passionate about creating meaningful design that connects with people and addresses real-world issues. I believe design has the power to communicate ideas, spark conversation, and inspire positive change. My work is particularly focused on socially engaged projects that combine visual storytelling with purpose and emotion. Throughout my studies, I have explored a range of design disciplines, with a strong interest in campaign design, editorial design, and photography. I’m especially drawn to projects that transform personal experiences and social issues into impactful visual outcomes. Storytelling plays a central role in my creative process, allowing audiences to form genuine connections with my work. For me, design is more than aesthetics, it is about creating thoughtful, relatable, and meaningful work that raises awareness and encourages change.

Sub off Sexism

Sub Off Sexism is a studio thesis campaign focused on raising awareness of the inequalities that exist between ladies’ and men’s Gaelic football. The project explores disparities in media coverage, funding, attendance, facilities, recognition, and overall respect afforded to female athletes in the sport. Through a combination of visual storytelling and personal experience, the campaign advocates for the amalgamation and equal treatment of both organisation’s to create a fair and inclusive playing field for all players.
At the core of the campaign is a photographic series created entirely through my own lens, documenting the strength, dedication, and passion present within ladies’ Gaelic football. By using my own photography. Ultimately, the purpose of this project is not only to expose inequality but to promote unity, visibility, and progress within Gaelic games. Sub Off Sexism aims to empower female athletes, educate audiences on gender disparity in sport, and encourage a change in attitude towards ladies’ Gaelic football.

Granny’s wake

Granny’s wake is a short moving-image piece that responds to a ritual brief. It reflects my personal experience of my Granny’s traditional Irish wake, showing how the rituals and experience of an at-home wake helped me process my grief and cope with loss of a very important person in my life, while expressing the feelings that I felt throughout the process, including the feeling of her still being present and guiding us through the Process. I also looked at the idea of a wake being the last act of care for the person we’ve lost, showcasing this through my own experiences and photographing them.
