My work transforms everyday objects. Culturally we have a preoccupation with large-scale and spectacle, but there is immensity in the most intimate of spaces. Used materials are extremely human, they hold the trace of a human being.
The wardrobe is a hybrid object, they are subject objects, they can be the keeper of secrets, they can be transformed into imagined secret histories. Wardrobes with their internal shelves, drawers and false bottoms have the quality of human organs.
The wardrobe is a reliable solid structure, you see what you are seeing, you touch what you are touching, however, this attention to the exterior dissipates when the wardrobe is opened. The inner space with its associations of intimacy cannot be just open to anybody, it has been my intention to expose the inner sanctums of these objects. The works are informed by historical events that are unfolding at present, surrounding borders, boundaries and restricted access.
