Gilford Mill Cookery School Experience
The aim of this project is to re-design an existing building into a fully functioning cookery school with a country life museum. After researching many buildings, I came across Gilford Mill in Co. Down, Northern Ireland. I thought that the building was a good fit as it fulfilled my wish for a rural setting with ease of access from nearby towns. The old mill was once used to produce linen during the 19th century and sits on the banks of the river Bann.
The river Bann is rich in sea trout, brown trout and salmon. The design concept was based on the movement and scales of the fish. The multi-functioning cookery school also includes a museum, boutique accommodation, a library, restaurant, café, bar, a demo room and private dining rooms for small groups. This relaxing multi-functioning space caters for people of all ages where one can learn a new skill, eat
in style, read in comfort and retire to
relaxing rooms.
