CoolR

The aim of this project was to prolong the lifespan of perishable food on the go. Perishable food should remain at room temperature for no longer than two hours, so it's important that cold food stay cold. Chilled food should be stored at refrigeration temperature (below 4°C). Many people may not have suitable food storage facilities to maintain food quality, therefore limiting their options on what meals to prepare for lunches or dinners on the go. Unsafe storage of food can lead to food spoilage, possible bacterial growth and the risk of food poisoning, so it's important to keep food safely stored at the appropriate temperature. My intention for the product is to encourage a healthier diet by making pre-made meals easier to store, without losing the fresh food quality and reducing the overconsumption of food. The product has built in freezer packs which reduces the container temperature to fridge like conditions, keeping the food fresh for longer. The design of the containers provide separation for different types of food which are stacked on top of each other to allow more convenient storage and portability. Colour changing material will act as an indicator for unsafe storage conditions. As the temperature rises, the lid handle will change colour, so the user will be aware of the storage conditions. The reason I chose the cylindrical shape was to provide the user with a product which could be easily maintained and packed away for travelling whilst maintaining an aesthetically pleasing, minimalist design.
